Portfolio > Neighboring (Anguilla Relief Project)

This series is being offered for sale, with all of the proceeds from the work being contributed directly to a small community in Anguilla. This community was one of the hardest hit in the path of Hurricane Irma, with the eye-wall of this massive storm hovering directly over the small island for hours. The island is in the midst a daunting recovery effort, and the funds raised from these paintings will be used to send generators, chainsaws, flashlights, drinking water, baby supplies, and many other basic items used in this process. A friend and coworker named Royce Davis was born and raised in Anguilla, and we will be periodically driving these items directly to the docks in Miami, place them within shipping containers to be sent to his family and extended community to be distributed.

I was fearful that much of this series of paintings, along with all of the other work that is still in my possession would not survive this storm, as many reports predicted that the area of Florida where I live would receive a similar impact as the islands. I am deeply grateful that this work did survive, and I would like to see it serve to benefit this community with whom I've been able to hear many second-hand accounts of the great need.

Much of my work over the last several years has been very closely associated with my immediate surroundings and the sensations that are triggered by the imagery of ordinary natural forces engaging the familiar. More frequently, I am finding myself compelled to residential buildings as subjects. In this case, so much of this imagery seemed appropriate with regard to the goal of this project. As a working title, I have been using the word "home". In using this word, I'm not specifically thinking of a single family residence, rather, a general feeling that is produced by the imagery of the spaces that are familiar to us.

If you are interested in acquiring one of these works, please send me a message regarding the details. The work will be matted in a warm white museum quality ragboard, mounted and framed with a simple clear maple frame. The work will be crated and shipped.

Shipping/crating is an additional amount.

Thank you so much for your interest,
